Writing Workshop is an instructional model that helps foster a love of writing within students by allowing them time to write. The purpose of Writing Workshop is to teach students that they are authors.

Reading Workshop is an instructional model that fosters a love of reading within students by allowing them time to read and respond to text in authentic and meaningful ways. Students share their daily interactions with text through writing and oral language opportunities.

Workshop Model of Teaching
1. Mini-Lesson
Each workshop session begins with a mini-lesson.
These are short, explicit lessons on reading or writing skills.
2. Work Time
Students put the lesson into practice.
Some of their work time activities include:
Work individually on reading or writing skills.
Meet with the teacher for small group instruction.
Conference with the teacher one-on-one.
Work with a partner on reading or writing skills.
Play games to practice reading and writing fluency.
3. Reflection and Sharing
This is a time for the class to share their thinking
and strategies used during work time.
