Camille was born in Charleston, South Carolina in the United States. As a child she lived in several places between the United States and in Singapore, where she also attended an international school. This sparked her interest in international teaching.
She graduated with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Educational Technology from the University of Florida. This is her 6th year at AISB. She has also taught upper elementary school at the American School of Lima in Peru, and Escola Americana de Campinas in Brazil. Camille can communicate with parents in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. She is half Argentinean and half American. She enjoys cooking, running, traveling and eating in her free time. She lives in Nagykovácsi with her husband Jacob and two children (aged 3 and 1). Leon O'Brien was born and raised for 16 years in Budapest, Hungary, having been a part of AISB since 2007. He then spent 2 years in Beijing, China, from 2019 to 2021, where he finished his IB Diploma.
Leon is currently taking a gap year to see where life takes him next, with teaching being a large possibility, and the reason he chose to work as an Assistant Teacher. Leon can speak comfortably in English, Hungarian, and German, as a result of him being half Hungarian and half American. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, reading any form of literature, and impulse-buying things he can't afford. Ashlee Christians earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and then went on to complete her Masters in Education through Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. Ashlee began teaching in Lee's Summit, Missouri, USA, in 2008 within a large public school system.
Ashlee has been working at the American International School of Budapest since 2015 in both Grade 3 and Grade 5. Ashlee believes there is something new to be learned each and every day. In order to facilitate sharing of ideas by her students, she wishes to develop a safe atmosphere where her students feel that their thoughts and opinions are valued. She firmly believes every individual deserves excellence in education. In her free time, Ashlee enjoys traveling, drinking lattes, and learning more about Hungary. Eszter Oroszi was born and raised in Hungary. She joined AISB in 2009 and she's been a member of the 5th grade team since 2015.
Eszter has a TEFL diploma to teach English as a foreign language for adults and young learners, and she also studied communication and commercial design. Eszter really enjoys being part of the 5th grade team and inquiring into amazing projects with all the students and teachers of the grade level. She believes in mindfulness and its positive effects on the development of the brain and tries to incorporate it into her work with children. In her free time, Eszter loves dancing, doing yoga, exploring new places, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog. Julia was born in 1967 in Kent, England. After spending three years teaching in the UK, Julia moved into International Education working in Portugal, Colombia, Belgium and Italy. Whilst in Colombia, Julia spent four years as the Assistant Principal and she continued this role during her time in Milan, Italy alongside her position as PYP Coordinator. Julia moved to the American International School of Budapest in 2009 and she has been happily teaching 5th Grade there ever since.
Julia has a B.Ed (hons) degree in English Literature and Education from Cambridge University and a Master's Degree in International Education with Oxford Brookes University. Kindness, respect and enthusiasm are the core values which underpin Julia's teaching. She believes that with a supportive environment and inspirational experiences everyone is capable of personal and academic success. In her free time Julia is an avid reader and likes to paint and sew. The natural world is a very important element of Julia's life and she enjoys nothing more than walking through the countryside with her dog. Julia also loves traveling and spending time with her daughter who is studying in the UK. Valentina Perlaza was born in Arlington, Virginia. She has lived abroad in various countries, Europe being her favorite continent. She arrived in Budapest, Hungary with her family, but has decided to stay beyond her parents' post.
Valentina joined the fifth grade team as an alumni hire last year. She is in her second year of university working towards a Primary Education degree. When she started working here she was often a MA substitute and found her passion for children and their development. When the opportunity arose to work full time in Elementary, there was no doubt for her continuation at the American International School of Budapest. Respect, honesty, and compassion are Valentina's focus values for everyday life. She is beyond excited for what this year holds for the fifth grade team. Some of Valentina's favorite hobbies include spending time with her family, friends, and traveling. Kathy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education alongside Spanish and Anthropology at James Madison University in Virginia, USA. As a classroom teacher she was greatly inspired by her students- especially those who were multilingual. She went on to earn a Masters degree in Reading and added English as an Additional Language to her teaching license so she could better meet students' needs. Kathy has taught in Virginia, Morocco and now Hungary. Kathy has been at AISB since 2007. She has worked as a technology teacher, a librarian, and has spent most of her time as an English as an Additional Language specialist with grade one, four and five students.
